Tom Cruise and Matt Lauer arm-wrestle “This is not Rocky II”

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Lauer said by way of introduction. “There is no rematch about to happen.”  “I thought about it a lot,” Cruise told Lauer. “It’s a subject matter that was important. After looking at it, I really thought, it’s not what I had intended. In looking at myself, I came across arrogant. I absolutely could have handled that better.”  Cruise lit up as he had three years ago when talking about his wife, Katie Holmes, who is starring in “All My Sons” on Broadway. The man whose iconic first scene in “Risky Business” involves him singing in a white shirt, socks and underwear has expressed interest in doing a musical someday. Last week, he did an impromptu Elvis impersonation on Jay Leno’s show.  As in 2005, the reason for Cruise’s visit to Today was a new movie. “Valkyrie,” scheduled for a Christmas release, is the story of a World War II plot by German army officers to kill Hitler. Cruise plays the man who attempts to carry out the plot. The movie is based on a true story about the plot, which ultimately failed.

It’s all bulls—. Excuse my language, says Kate Hudson

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

“As primal beings, men are not supposed to be monogamous.” says Kate Hudson in Harper’s Bazaar.  ”So the whole thing is very new to me, and it hits you very fast because the publications jump on you. You’re dating everybody you walk around with you can’t have any male friends. It’s weird.”  “They’ve said maybe four times recently that I’m pregnant. Because I’m leaning over in the picture! You think about it, and you’re like, ‘What are you doing?” Kate Hudson went on to say, No, I’m single. I’m totally single.

Hollywood is outperforming last year’s holiday season

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Reese Witherspoon as Kate and Vince Vaughn as Brad in "Four Christmases."

Despite the economic downturn, Hollywood continued to outperform last year’s holiday season, with revenues up for the fifth weekend in a row.  The top 12 movies took in $77.5 million, a 6 percent increase from the same weekend in 2007, when “The Golden Compass” opened at No. 1 with $25.8 million.  Revenues for the year are at $8.7 billion, slightly ahead of the pace last year, when Hollywood ended up with record receipts of $9.7 billion. However, that reflects higher ticket prices, because actual attendance is down 4 percent.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters

1. “Four Christmases,” $18.2 million.

2. “Twilight,” $13.2 million.

3. “Bolt,” $9.7 million.

4. “Australia,” $7 million.

5. “Quantum of Solace,” $6.6 million.

Tom Cruise says no to sex comedies

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

After ‘Risky Business,’ all they offered me were sex comedies and I said no. They told me if I said no, I would lose my audience. And I didn’t,” Tom cruise says. “No matter what is going on in my life, no matter how much pressure or scrutiny, I always go back to that kid in the movie theater who just wants to make films.” Shrugs Tom Cruise, “I don’t want to be what people want me to be. I’ve had my own challenges, and no matter what, I think, ‘How do I want to live my life?’ So even people saying I might lose my audience, that thought has always been there. I have ignored it before, and I will again.”  Concludes Tom with his trademark, tooth-baring laugh, “My feeling is, go big or go home. Or go big or get sent home.” Gee Tom does that explain your last film “Lions for Lambs”?  Just in time for the Christmas Day release of Tom Cruise”s ”Valkyrie” the feel good, we almost killed Hitler movie of the year, he and Katie Holmes are dishing up their patented schmoopiness. “I knew I wanted to marry Kate when I met her,” says Tom Cruise the star. “After our very first date, I was sure. So, I bought the ring shortly after that first date.”

Brad Pitt using butt double for latest film

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Brad Pitt in Focus Features' Burn After Reading

It seems that Brad Pitt is so concerned about doing nude scenes in his new flick,  The curious Case of Benjamin Button, that Brad told movie bosses to look for someone to bare their bottom for him.  Brad Pitt has previously showed off his bare bottom in Thelma and Louise in 1991 and 2004 troy.  We know that Brat is over forty but really no bun intended, must he use a butt double?  Well Brad Pitt isn’t alone using butt doubles the list includes Christopher walken who personally auditions his butt doubles.  The Wilson brothers both Luke and Owen use butt doubles, in the case of Owen one could understand.  Cate Blanchett used a butt double for “Elizabeth” but did expose a left breast in the movie.  Now the actors that don’s use butt doubles are Richard Gere and Natalie Portman at least for their latest films.

Kevin Federline hopes for a reconciliation with Britney Spears?

Kevin Federline: My Side of the Story| Britney Spears, Kevin Federline

It’s hard enough to be in a marriage, and then have kids, it changes everything. For me, I’d become more concerned with my children. Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important , I mean, we were having complications. I didn’t give her an ultimatum, but I was trying to work stuff out with her, and she didn’t even talk to me or anything and went behind my back and filed for divorce.  Was completely blindside.  I told them that I would spend every last dime that I had to make sure that my children are okay. That’s all that mattered. I didn’t know how much power Britney had. That really scared me. Said Kevin Federline.   Oh, man, it’s totally turning around. It works out that the kids get to see her. There’s structure over there, there’s structure at my house. We’re trying to keep the same type of schedule. It doesn’t have to be completely perfect, but the foundation is there.  “I’m one to never say never,” Kevin Federline said, when asked about the chances of a reconciliation. “I mean, I’m not going to sit here and say I’m geared up to go that route, but who knows what the future holds for anybody.”

Brat Pitt says his new movie is a “love letter to New Orleans”

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Make It Right was launched by Pitt a year ago. The program calls for construction of 150 energy-efficient homes in a section of New Orleans washed away when Katrina broke levees Aug. 29, 2005.  Pitt said that by December 2009, the Lower 9th Ward should be one of the nation’s largest “green” neighborhoods.  Brat Pitt and partner Angelina Jolie, who appeared at a screening of Pitt’s new film “The Curious case of Benjamin Button.” The film, which also stars Cate Blanchett, opens Dec. 25. But because it was filmed in New Orleans in 2006 and 2007, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. held a special screening here.  “It’s a gorgeous, gorgeous film,” said Pitt, who in the movie plays a man who begins life as elderly and grows younger with time. “It’s a film that makes you want to hug your kids and call your folks.”  Pitt also described the movie as “a love letter to New Orleans.”  “There’s a sense of magic here, so it made this fantastic story almost believable,” he said.
